What are the chances?

In the past 50 years, I’ve managed to survive growing up with 5 younger brothers, no seatbelts until my twenties, childbirth (twice), a child falling out a window (thank you, Tim) and two teenagers learning to drive. I didn’t break my neck skiing without a helmet (on the bunny slope, granted), riding a bike without same, or even walking without same (I fall down A LOT).  I’ve been known to drink too much alcohol, or too little water.

It’s not all luck ~ I’ve avoided standing on the tops of ladders, standing under trees during lightening storms, using the hairdryer while taking a bath, or being towed by a car while riding on a sled, skateboard or rollerblades.  I don’t swim in rivers, BASE jump, or street race my Honda.

So here I am. Fifty. It’s still a surprise.

Congratulations! It’s also my mother’s birthday. She’s 81, and has made over 40 quilts all pieced and quilted by hand. She’s just now had to give it up because of arthritis in her hands.
    Happy Birthday!
