Sending a huge “Thank you” to Season, Meaghan, Katie, Roan (for letting us borrow his mom), Melissa (for hosting our little adventure) and Kathy Mack (for generously opening her doors and allowing us to play awhile).
On Saturday, I was lucky to spend the day on Bainbridge Island with some of my very favorite quilters. The weather was fine (dry and calm is all we can hope for lately), lunch was delicious and relaxing, and the shopping was….excessive. Once again, I failed to take many pictures ~ I must be suffering under the delusion that my writing is so skilled as to not require photographs to tell the story, even on a blog. Or I was just having too much fun, which I was.
I caught the 10:35am ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge. It’s only a 35 minute trip, and if the spectacular views aren’t enough (they are), watching all the kids taking in the experience makes the time fly right by. Once on the island, I walked up to Esther’s Fabrics (which had moved since the last time I was there) and met Season, Meaghan, and Melissa. Katie arrived a few minutes later, and by that time I had already found the 50% off corner. There were fabrics stashed in that corner that had no business being in that corner. Twenty yards of fabric later…..
This wonderful retro Alexander Henry “Martini” for me, and Westminster “Be a Man” for Tim’s soon-to-be basement wet bar:
A couple yards each of “Lizzy Dish”. Maybe something for Ashlee & Camden’s new kitchen?
Two and a half yards of the impossible-to-resist Alexander Henry “Willow Grove”, and 7 yards of Erin Michaels “Lush” Painter’s Palette ~ a quilt back of beautiful fabric for less than $5/yd.
With bags too heavy to carry around, we made a trip back to Katie’s car to unload, and then walked up to the McKenna Ryan Art Quilt and Fabric Showroom. Whether you’re a devoted fan, or you’ve never heard of her work, it’s worth the stop. The displayed quilts are spectacular and the fabrics and patterns are irresistable.
Lunch was at Cafe Nola (thanks to reservations Melissa made for us). Very busy, but great service, food and adult beverages.
And then we were off to Pink Chalk Fabrics. Not only am I an always-satisfied customer, I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about Kathy personally. They are all true and more. She’s warm and funny and generous with her time and knowledge, and it was pure pleasure finally meeting her. And did I mention fabric? Lots and lots of fabric, some of which came home with me. But the icing on the cake ~ the invitation to dig through lovely stacks of remnants. Not scraps. Remnants. It’s okay if you hate me. I would hate me. Three yards of Kona Sage (the only fabric I had on my shopping list at the beginning of the day) to use as the background for Love in the Making, and a yard each of Free Spirit Designer solids in Papaya and Flamingo. Just because.
A couple yards of Michael Miller “Tiny Gingham” in Lime. It’s so sweet, and Melissa showed us an apron Kathy made using the gingham as binding – absolutely adorable! The Heather Bailey “Bijoux” Primrose Tiles jumped in the stack, too.
And last, but not least, this stack of remnants. I can’t wait to play with it all ~
I was home by about 5pm last night. Full of ideas and inspiration, a little footsore, happily tired, and with a bruised bank acount. Pretty much the perfect Saturday.
